AIM & SHOOT AT AMMODUMP SHOOTING RAGE – KWENIA ECOLODGE

We have seen it, but today we are doing it. We are excited to go do some shooting for fun. As early as 6am we are gathered and ready to leave Nairobi for Kwenia Eco Lodge. The roads are not so favorable since the rains have just ended and erosion effects can be seen. We drive at a slow pace to the Lodge and get there at 12.30pm. This is not the time we expected but, we are all anxious to start the activities of the day. Upon arrival we were received warmly with a welcome juice and settled at the lounge for briefing.

We start with a small briefing of the activities of the day. We are taken through a room tour of the tents that the lodge has. The property has a total of 20 tented rooms; nine being self-contained. The camp offers an array of thrilling activities, including archery, motor cross, cycling, hiking to the water fall and the dragon fruit farm, walking tours, quad bike rides & tours, and the unforgettable shooting range.

After inspection we were served with a slight snack, then got to the vehicles headed to the Farm tour where they get plant farm crops & fruits. The farm has dragon fruits – and we got to learn how they are planted, harvested and tasted the ripe ones. The fruits are used at the hotel and others are sold in the nearest town. The farm also produces pawpaws, sugarcane, vegetables for the hotel consumption. The tour took about 1 hour, where we then left for the Waterfall point. This is a cliff, overlooking the plains. During the rainy season, it forms a scenic waterfall. We engaged in a small hike up the huge cliff. The views are wide and clear from the cliff through the plains up the hotel & the hotel can be spotted from a far. Going down is quite easy. We later drove back to the hotel for lunch.

Lunch is served and we enjoy the nyama choma – well done and tender. Just like the staple food of the people living in the area. After lunch, we are excited to do Quad Biking. The quad bikes are not soo many so we take turns to ride them. The photographer very keen on every shot.

Finally, the long awaiting part is here, we set out for the shooting range grounds. The grounds are a walking distance from the Lodge. The guns that we shall be using are; pistol, Shot gun, Rifle, and the Semi Auto rifle. After guidance on the shooting procedure, charges and safety measure from the team, the shooting thrill was up. The first step being to sign the indemnity form, getting the headphones to cover your ears from the loud shooting sound. We take part one after the other.  This took close to 2 hours.

It is already getting dark when the last people are doing the shooting, it was already 7pm, we later got back to the Lodge. We clear our bills, gather for a final word from our host, vote of thanks and a group photo.
